My stupid generator came with a fuel petcock that has NEVER been made on this planet except for the one that was custom created for my generator, so when that petcock failed, I had to adapt a STANDARD size petcock to my generator's fuel tank. That's where dees nuts (HAHAHA) came in. They had the one off thread pitch I needed to screw onto the nipple coming out of my paper thin sheet metal fuel tank. Using one of these and welding a nut with the threads for the STANDARD fuel petcock, I was able to get that petcock attached to my generator and get my generator running again. The one nut that I used had sharp threads and a consistent thickness.
