Hanger Bolts feature a lag screw thread to install into wood, with an exterior machine screw thread to accept the fixture, followed by the wing nut to keep everything in place. This kit includes a 1/4"-20 power bit to make installing the hanger bolts a breeze. Hurricane Hardware Hanger Bolts with Installation Bit and Washered Wing Nuts Hanger Bolts Hanger Bolts in this kit are made of zinc plated steel and are 1/4 inch in diameter. These hanger bolts are 3 inches long and feature 1-1/2 inches of lag screw thread on one side, and 1-1/2 inches of 1/4"-20 machine screw thread on the other. The lag thread portion is anchored into wood, while the exposed machine screw thread is paired with a nut to attach fixtures such as panels, boards, or shutters. Flanged Wing Nuts Flanged Wing Nuts (or Washer Base Wing Nuts) are commonly used with hanger bolts because they can be installed or removed by hand, and feature an integrated washer to prevent pull through and increase the holding strength of the fastener assembly. Washer base wing nuts in this kit are made from a strong and durable Zamak 3 Zinc Alloy. Hanger Bolt Installation Bit Hanger bolts have no head, which make them difficult to drive into wood without a special tool. In this kit we have included a matching installation bit that can be used with most cordless drills and features a 1/4 inch power bit shank. The machine threads of the bolt are threaded into the bit, and then the lag portion of the bolt is driven into the wood.
